Numerical Simulation of Free-surface Flows Using a Moving Unstructured Mesh

چکیده
A new moving mesh approach is used for numerical simulation of incompressible flow problems involving freesurfaces. The divergence form of the Navier-Stokes equation is discretized using an unstructured staggered mesh method. This method exploits the inherent advantages of the DelaunayVeronoi co-volumes, which exhibit an orthogonal behavior. The paper also describes the semi-Lagrangian mesh adaptive technique used to track the free-surface. Results obtained from implementing this numerical technique on a few free-surfaces flows are presented and discussed.

A moving unstructured staggered mesh method for the simulation of incompressible free-surface flows
A new moving staggered mesh discretization for the numerical simulation of incompressible flow problems involving free-surfaces is presented. The method uses the staggered mesh to obtain speed and conservation properties. Mesh motion provides a high quality mesh in the interior and detailed resolution of the free-surface motion on the surface. Mesh flipping allows for optimal mesh connectivity ...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Flow Past Oscillating Airfoil Using Oscillation of Flow Boundary Condition
The present study is devoted to an approximate modeling for numerical simulation of flows past oscillating airfoils. In this study, it is shown that the harmonic oscillating objects can be studied by simple numerical codes that are not able to solve moving grids. Instead of using moving grid for the simulation of flowfield around an oscillating airfoil, this unsteady flow is solved on a fixed g...

For implementation of the free surface boundary condition, a new subroutine has been introduced to an existing steady 3-D body fitted code. This code was previously written for steady flow simulation in closed ducts. The algorithm used in this subroutine reduces the instability problem according to the free surface wave generation. For code validation, it was applied to two different open cha...

A method for performing anisotropic unstructured mesh adaptation is discussed that is well suited for computational fluid dynamics on parallel distributed memory computers. This algorithm which involves mesh motion, rather than refinement and coarsening, is fast, parallel, and fully conservative. The approach is effective at accurately capturing free-surface flows, boundary layers, and unsteady...
